DENVER, CO (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Remember that scene in Little Miss Sunshine when the yellow VW van is bumping through the New Mexico desert? Well, not only was that scene supported by music by DeVotchKa, but the scene itself was inspired by the band and its travels through the country.
Referred to by the Wall Street Journal as, "a vivacious and versatile quartet that draws on Eastern European, German, Mexican and Gypsy folk music," DeVotchKa has been on the scene for over a decade and will be touring the country this spring.
The band released its first album in 2000 but cycled members in and out to get its current formation, which it has held since 2003.
DeVotchKa is comprised of founding member Nick Urata, vocals, bouzouki, piano and trumpet; Tom Hagerman, violin, keys, and accordion; Shawn King, percussion and trumpet; and Jeanie Schroder, upright base and sousaphone.
DeVotchKa released its fifth and newest album, "100 Lovers" earlier this month, which the LA Times called out as, "sonically, musically and conceptually expansive."
