Johnston – Maverick To Cancer Survivor To Rock Star

DALLAS (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Dallas based Ray Johnston Band (RJB) is hitting the west April 1-13.

The band recently headlined at Dallas’ House of Blues and just finished a two week tour with Cowboy Mouth.

Formed in Sep 2009, RJB has performed with Prince, Herbie Hancock, and Chaka Chan. The band’s live performances have been compared to the likes of Dave Matthews Band and other strong live acts.

A self-taught guitarist, lead singer Ray Johnston played as Dallas Mavericks jersey #2 but he wouldn’t get to wear the Mavericks’ uniform for long. When an ordinary bump on the court turned into a major bleed episode, Ray found out he had an advanced form of leukemia.

For many months he was in and out of hospitals, and when he was told he would not live past the age of 33, Ray started a band.

Ray has relapsed four times since 2004 but is currently in remission now for 15 months and touring hard.

RJB had a 9-part TV “docuseries” on HDNet titled "Ray Johnston Band: Road Diaries" that was nominated by the CableFax association for documentary series of 2010.
