Ernie Valdez is retiring on February 14 as director of the Fresno Convention Center in Fresco, CA. Valdez, 65, has enjoyed a 35-year relationship with the city. He began his career as a maintenance worker at the convention center and gradually moved up the ranks to the director position 15 years ago. In between, Valdez served as an event coordinator and assistant director. Mike Sweeney, who is currently manager at the convention center, will serve as the interim director. Sweeney is a 25-year industry veteran.
