Joey Ramone Place Given Green Light

The corner of East Second Street and the Bowery in the East Village has been given the official green light to be renamed Joey Ramone Place, following approval by the 50-member local community board Nov 15. It had already been unanimously passed by the Public Safety and Transportation Committee of Manhattan's Community Board 3 (CelebrityAccess, Nov 11).

Punk icon Joey Ramone died April 15.

The street sign will go up within a year with the exact date to be determined by Ramone's family and the Department of Transportation.
