Lookout! Records To Shutter

SAN FRANCISCO (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Lookout! Records, the former label home of pop-punk band Green Day has announced they will be ceasing operation over the next few months.

In a post on the label's website, Lookout!’s owner and president Chris Appelgren detailed the label's travails, noting that they stopped releasing new product in 2005, leaving Lookout! to subsist on their back catalog.

Lookout! is best known as the former home of Green Day, but featured other artists on their roster, including Ted Leo And The Pharmacists, Go Sailor, Sweet Baby Jesus, The Mr. T Experience, Operation Ivy and numerous others.

Green Day helped vault the label to success, releasing their first two studio efforts on Lookout! before moving on to Reprise. However, the band's decision in 2005 to pull their back catalog out from Lookout!, including 1992's "Kerplunk" left Lookout! in tough shape.

"That development meant significantly scaling down the business, which included letting the staff go and moving from the label's Berkeley headquarters and warehouse into a small office," Appelgren noted in his farewell post.

"It's time to let Lookout Records really and truly become history," Appelgren added. – CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
