Mammoth Records Shuttered By Disney

In a not too unexpected move, Mammoth Records has been shuttered by the Buena Vista Music Group, owned by the Walt Disney Company. Mammoth's roster, which will continue to exist as an imprint, will be worked by sister label Hollywood Records. Mammoth President Rob Seidenberg's service has been retained in what is being considered a "restructuring effort," but most of the other employees will be let go over the next two weeks. Mammoth is currently working Schatzi and Fu Manchu with new releases coming from Los Lobos, John Wesley Harding, and A.

Disney bought Mammoth from founder Jay Faires in 1997 for a reported $25 million. He left the label in February 2000,
and Seidenberg took over
at that time.
