Mobley Joins Global Spectrum As SVP

(CelebrityAccess MediaWire) —

Thomas M. Mobley, Jr. is joining Global Spectrum in the newly created position of senior vice president of Convention Centers in January.
Currently, he is general manager and CEO of the Washington Convention Center Authority in Washington, DC, where for the past three years he managed all aspects of the state-of-the-art 725,000-sq. ft. convention center. Prior to working in Washington, he spent 11 years as general manager of the largest convention center in the United States, the 2.2-million sq. ft. McCormick Place Convention Complex in Chicago, IL.

"Tom Mobley will be an instrumental part of our sales and new business team as we continue to grow our convention center business," said Global Spectrum President Michel Sauers. "Tom will work closely with Chief Operating Officer John Page in maximizing the operations of our existing convention center facilities, developing enhanced training programs for our staff and contributing additional support to attract additional support to attract additional events and shows to our convention centers.

"We expect that Tom will help generate new synergistic opportunities within our convention centers, as well as increase business. Tom has the resources, the industry contacts and is the ideal person to help us take our convention center business to the next level."

In addition to managing McCormick Place and the Washington Convention Center, Mobley was director of the Division of Theatres and Arenas for Denver, CO, from 1988-92, where he managed the 300,000-sq. ft. Colorado Convention Center, the 100,000-sq. ft. Currigan Exhibition Hall as well as the 19,000-seat McNichols Arena, the 11,500-seat Denver Coliseum and the 9,000-seat Red Rocks Amphitheatre. He also was executive director of the Jacksonville (FL) Convention Complex from 1984-1988 and the executive director of the Baltimore (MD) Convention Center from 1981-84.

Mobley's name is synonymous with success in the convention center industry as he serves as chairman of the Board of the Convention Industry Council. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Professional Convention Management Association Foundation and a former chairman of the Board and treasurer of the Center for Exhibition Industry Research. He also is a member of the American Society of Association Executives, Exhibition Services Contractors Association, Exhibitor Appointed Contractors Association, International Association of Exposition Managers, Professional Convention Management Association and Tradeshow Exhibitors Association.

"With his associations and resources throughout the industry, we are confident Tom will help us continue to grow our convention center business," added Global Spectrum Chairman and Comcast-Spectacor President Peter Luukko. "He's highly respected and well known throughout the industry and he is the perfect fit for our team."
