Moonlight Wins Oscar For Best Picture

LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) — La La Land takes the 2017 Oscar for Best Picture is what you'd be thinking if you turned off your television right after actor Faye Dunaway announced the winner last night, but you'd be wrong.

In a bizarre turn of events, Dunaway announced the wrong winner for best picture. Warren Beatty, her presenting partner, opened the envelope and appeared to hesitate, but after being chided by Dunaway, he handed her the envelope and she announced the musical "La La Land" as the winner.

Cue the the acceptance speech as the "La La Land" folks gathered on stage, only to be reigned in by the producers of the awards show.

La La Land producer Jordan Horowitz confirmed that a mistake had been made and showed the envelope card which appeared to state that "Moonlight" had won.

"Moonlight" director Barry Jenkins seemed shocked by the sudden reversal of fortune.

"Very clearly, even in my dreams, this could not be true. But to hell with dreams — I’m done with it, because this is true. Oh, my goodness. I have to say — and it is true, it’s not fake — we’ve been on the road with these guys for so long, and that was so gracious, so generous of them. My love to “La La Land,” my love to everybody. Man," Jenkins told the crowd.

Beatty later explained that he had made a mistake in reading the card, but did not explain how Dunaway fell afoul of the same error after he passed the card to her.

Best actor honors went to Casey Affleck for his portrayal of a grief-stricken man shouldering unexpected responsibilities in "Manchester By The Sea" while Emma Stone won the Oscar for best actress for her part in "La La Land," one of six Oscars the film took home. – Staff Writers
