Pharrell, Lil Wayne, Among Headliners For Philadelphia's Roots Picnic

PHILADELPHIA (CelebrityAccess) — Hip hop icons the Roots announced that they are teaming up with Live Nation to bring their annual Roots Picnic back to Philadelphia for its tenth year.

Set for June 3rd, the festival will feature three stages of performances by artists such as Pharrell & The Roots (joint headline set), Lil Wayne, Solange, 21 Savage, Kimbra, Gilles Peterson and more.

First held in 2008, the festival is brainchild of the Roots and their manager Shawn Gee. The Roots, comprised of Black Thought (MC), Questlove (drums), Kamal Gray (electronic keyboards), F. Knuckles (percussion), Captain Kirk Douglas (electronic guitar), Damon Bryson (sousaphone) and James Poyser (electronic keyboard) also serve as the house band for Jimmy Fallon.

"Ten years ago this started as a concept, an idea, a conversation between me, Tarik (Black Thought), Ahmir (Questlove) and Rich (Nichols)," says Shawn Gee, Roots manager and partner in Maverick Management. "It's amazing that it has grown into such a valued piece of the cultural landscape of our hometown of Philadelphia. We were blessed to expand the Picnic to NYC last year, and the brand will continue to grow and evolve, but Philly will ALWAYS be the home, the birthplace of the Roots Picnic. We are super excited to bring a packed lineup to celebrate our 10th anniversary, and as always there will be plenty of surprises and special guests." – Staff Writers
