Producer, Author Julia Phillips Dead At 57

Movie producer, author Julia Phillips died January 1 of cancer in her Hollywood, California home. She was 57. Phillips was diagnosed with the disease in August. In 1973, she became the first woman producer to win a best picture Oscar for The Sting, starring Robert Redford and Paul Newman. She later co-produced director Martin Scorsese's Taxi Driver in 1976 and Steven Spielberg's Close Encounters of the Third Kind the following year.
