Ray Johnston Finds Silver Lining In Cancer Battle

CHICAGO (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — “Ray Johnston Band:  Road Diaries” has been named as a finalist in the CableFAX Program Awards in the category of “Best Show or Series:  Documentary.”

“Ray Johnston Band:  Road Diaries” aired earlier this year on HDNet. The series joins other networks in the category such as The History Channel, Discovery, ESPN and CNBC.

The eight-part series followed Johnston, a cancer survivor and former Dallas Maverick point guard, as he and his band traveled across the country trying to make it in the music business.

While the documentary chronicled the band’s journey, the true focus and backdrop is the uplifting, behind-the-scenes story of the band’s leader, Ray Johnston, and his battle with leukemia.

The Ray Johnston Band is turning tragedy into triumph, which is highlighted by a series of fundraisers for The Ryan Gibson Foundation or TRGF, a Dallas based non-profit organization that supports leukemia research throughout the U.S.

“Everyone at HDNet is very proud of this program and proud to be associated with Ray,” said Mark Cuban, chairman and co-founder of HDNet, according to the press release. –by CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
