Reading Festival To Increase Capacity

LONDON (VIP-NEWS) — Reading Borough Council has allowed the Reading Festival to increase its capacity each year until 2011, starting with an extra 3,500 for the 2009 event. This brings the total capacity to 84,000.

A further 3,500 will be available in 2010 and another 3,000 will be available in 2011.

The council also agreed to increased the sound limits at this year's event; it rises from 98db to a peak of 107db for on-site levels and 65db to 68db for off-site levels.

"I would like to pay tribute to the council for not resting on their laurels and for helping the Reading Festival to maintain its position as the pre-eminent rock festival in the world," said Melvin Benn, managing director of Reading organizer Festival Republic, in a statement.

The extra tickets have first been offered to Reading Borough Council residents, who needed to register at before today (31/7). Any remaining tickets will be put on general sale from tomorrow (1/8).
