Rick Sands has been named as the new president and chief operating officer (COO) of DreamWorks SKG. He comes to DreamWorks from Miramax Films, where he most recently served as COO. He had joined Miramax Films in 1990 as the executive vice president and chief financial officer and was instrumental in the negotiations that brought Miramax to Disney. Leaving Miramax in 1993, he worked for two years at RHI Entertainment, before returning to Miramax in 1995 as president of International. In 1997, Sands was promoted to chairman of Worldwide Distribution. Four years later, he was named the company's COO.
In his new post, Sands will primarily be responsible for overseeing the management of day-to-day operations of the private company, reporting directly to principal partner David Geffen. –Bob Grossweiner and Jane Cohen
