Sarnia Weighs Arena Naming Rights Deal

SARNIA, Ontario (CelebrityAccess) — Auto dealer Progressive Auto Sales is the leading contender bidding for naming rights of the Sarnia Sports & Entertainment Centre.

According to the Sarnia Observer, city staff has recommended Progressive's 10-year, $42,500-per-year bid to secure naming rights for the venue.

Other bidders include LiUNA, a union primarily representing construction workers, offered a 10-year, $40,000-per-year bid for the venue's naming rights.

While both parties would make “excellent sponsorship partners,” city staff are recommending Progressive Auto Sales because its bid offers a greater financial incentive for the city, the Observer said.

Until last Fall, the venue was known as the RBC Centre, but the city's naming rights deal with RBC Royal Bank expired last September. The bank paid $35,000 for a one-year extension of its naming rights contract in 2014, the Observer reported.

City council will consider their options for the deal during a meeting on May 9th. – Staff Writers
