LONDON (CelebrityAccess) — Irish singer Van Morrison is the latest addition to the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire.
Sir George Ivan "Van" Morrison said the feeling was "amazing" and "exhilarating" after he was knighted by the Prince of Wales during a ceremony on February 4th at Buckingham Palace.
Morrison was awarded with the honor in recognition of his contribution to the world of music and for driving tourism in his home of Northern Ireland.
"For 53 years I've been in the business – that's not bad for a blue-eyed soul singer from east Belfast," the 70-year-old Morrison said after the ceremony.
Following the ceremony, Morrison had a brief conversation with Prince Charles, who asked about his plans for the future.
"He was just saying, was I still writing? And he said: 'You're not going to retire any time soon?' And I said: 'No, I'm not, I'm going to keep it going while I can'," Morrison said. – Staff Writers
