LONDON (VIP NEWS) — Tallinn Music Week was awarded the title of Best Host City Champion for promoting Tallinn by the Yearly Music Convention Awards (YMCA) at The Great Escape in the UK.
The Yearly Music Convention Awards 2014 took place on the final day of The Great Escape last weekend in Brighton awarding Tallinn Music Week the title of Best Host City Champion. Other nominees were Berlin Music Week, Waves Vienna, The Great Escape (Brighton) and Reeperbahn Campus in Hamburg.
The co-founder of The Great Escape and programmer of the legendary Glastonbury festival Martin Elbourne comments: "As well as championing great new music, the best showcase festivals also champion their host cities, and Tallinn Music Week has been particularly good at raising the profile of Estonia and its capital within the global music industry. By utilizing so many great buildings across the city for its shows, and with its innovative food program and special events for international delegates, TMW was a deserving winner of our first YMCA for Best City Champion”.
Tallinn Music Week has received annual awards of YMCA before – Best New Showcase Festival in 2012; a year later TMW conference venue Nordic Hotel Forum was awarded the title of Best Conference Hotel.
The Great Escape and YMCA are not the only music industry organizations that value Tallinn as a music and culture destination.
The head of Finnish Fullsteam music agency Juha Kyyrö says: "TMW makes you feel like Tallinn is the new Berlin. Everyone is here, and everything is easy and amazing.”
The manager of the legendary Pink Floyd Peter Jenner adds: "Tallinn was built as a trading post, where East and West could meet, that is what Tallinn Music Week is doing now for the Music Industry. The range of music is wide, the production, sound and lights at the venues are terrific, and reflect the quality of the music. The concerts in the book-shops and galleries open the festival for the whole town – a terrific idea.”
Tallinn Music Week is the biggest talent showcase festival of the Nordic Baltic region. The next Tallinn Music Week takes place from 26th to 28th March 2015.
