Two Killed In Violent Attack At Country Legend Jean Shepard's Home

HENDERSON, TN (CelebrityAccess) — Benny Birchfield, the widower of country singer Jean Shepard won’t face charges in the shooting death of a 21-year-old man at his Henderson home on Saturday.

According to WKRN, Birchfield discovered 21-year-old Travis Sanders in his home early Saturday morning. Sanders, who until recently had been involved romantically with Birchfield's 18-year old Icey Hawkins-Sloan, attacked Birchfield with a knife, stabbing him several times.

Birchfield then retrieved a gun and alleged killed Sanders. Hawkins-Sloan was found with several stab wounds, and transported to a local hospital but later died of her injuries, WKRN said.

“It looked like she was trying to prevent someone from stabbing her,” Det. Sgt. Jim Vaughn said. “It was an extremely bloody crime scene.”

Funeral arrangements have not yet been made, but Hawkins-Sloan will be buried next to her biological grandfather, Hawkshaw Hawkins. – Staff Writers
