UNIVERSAL CITY, CALIF. (CelebrityAccess) The “Billboard Music Awards” show, presented by NBC and dick clark productions, is set to air for three hours on Sunday eve, May 20, at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT.
This is the first time NBC has ever broadcast the show after signing a multiyear deal in November. Last year’s award show, aired by ABC, initially averaged a 2.3 rating and 7.7 million viewers, according to Nielsen data, with upwards tick to 8.7 million making the May 21 broadcast the top-rated show of the evening, although it took a 16 percent dip in the key demo from the year before, according to Variety.
Award finalists are based on key interactions with music fans, along with album and digital songs sales, radio airplay, and other data points tracked by Billboard, Nielsen Music and Next Big Sound, among other partners.
