CRAVEN, SK (CelebrityAccess) — It was the best of times and the worst of times at for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police at the Country Thunder Saskatchewan festival over the weekend.

According to the Regina Leader-Post, the RCMP reported that incidents of violent crime were down at the festival this year, but noted that incidents involving impaired driving were up for 2018.

The RCMP said they responded to 145 calls for service over the course of the festival. Those calls resulted in 39 people being put into custody, including ten who enjoyed overnight stays. 19 were hit with criminal charges, the RCMP said.

Calls included an alleged assault with a weapon and another for a man who was driving a golf cart on festival grounds while he was “highly intoxicated.”

As well, a total of 983 vehicles were stopped during the festival, with 240 charges under the Traffic Safety Act, 253 warning tickets, 12 impounded vehicles and four license suspensions.

“We have a little bit more impaired driving incidents this year then we had in the past few years,” said Staff Sgt. Devin Pugh told the Regina Leader-Post.

“Our stats for traffic stops for the last few days have been just incredible. Our traffic services people have done a great job,” added Pugh. “It’s hard-pressed to come out to Craven and not see several police vehicles checking for safety.”

The decline in serious crimes came even as the festival expanded to four days this year with music on Thursday, in addition to its traditional Friday-Sunday fare.
