LONDON (CelebrityAccess) The Music Week Awards 2019 took place at the Battersea Evolution, drawing 1,300 industry execs to the London venue May 9.
The awards show, hosted by Radio 2’s Jo Whiley, saw Polydor and Atlantic take who two awards each, with Polydor taking home Record Company of the Year. Atlantic won the A&R Award, with the label’s Alec Boateng acknowledging “all the artists who follow their heart and soul.”
Island’s Darcus Beese was honored for a career that included working with artists like Amy Winehouse, U2, Mumford & Sons, Florence + The Machine and Hozier. Bono honored Beese in a video message, calling him “a prince of a man.” There were also messages of support from Universal Music Group chairman Sir Lucian Grainge and UK chairman David Joseph.
“Many, many congratulations on getting the Strat Award,” Grainge said. “I’m proud of your achievements and all of us within UMG are proud of them as well.”
