TORONTO (CelebrityAccess) Drake may not have actually been on the court for the last game of the NBA Finals, but the hip-hop star apparently played a big part in the Toronto Raptors taking home the championship trophy last night at Oracle Arena in Oakland, Calif.
At least that’s how it looks according to Drake’s post-game press conference. Drake stayed in Toronto, reportedly because of security concerns, and led the Raptor fan watch part at Jurassic Park.
The Raptors, who share the same hometown as the Canadian rapper, beat the NBA’s Golden State Warriors 114 to 110 in a back-and-forth, epic game that was called an “instant classic.” The Raptors are now NBA champions for the first time in franchise history after Stephen Curry’s potential game-winning 3-pointer didn’t make the mark during the closing moments.
Drake has been one of the most visible supporters of the Raptors and could be seen on the sidelines throughout the series offering support. He was also the subject of some good-spirited ribbing throughout the playoffs, with DJs from opposing cities refusing to play Drake’s music on the airwaves during the Raptors’ visits to various cities like Milwaukee.
All that ended with Drake victorious. He held an impromptu post-game press conference last night that by all appearances could have been by a player who scored the buzzer-beating winning basket.
The entertainer’s excitement is certainly contagious and he is an obviously strong supporter of his community and sports team, but it sure is fun to watch just the same, if only to hear him say “I want my chips with my dip,” “turn your cameras toward the screen” and “make another meme out of this”:
