Missy Elliot To Receive The Vanguard Award At The 2019 VMAs

NEWARK, NJ (CelebrityAccess) — MTV announced that rap icon Missy Elliot will be honored with the Video Vanguard Award at the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards.

The Vanguard is intended to honor complete body of work for an established artist. Elliot will join the ranks of fellow performers such as Beyoncé, Janet Jackson, Madonna, and last year’s recipient, Jennifer Lopez, who have received the award.

Over the course of career, Elliot has netted seven different VMA Awards, including Video of the Year in 2003 for “Work It” and Best Hip-Hop Video in 2005 for “Lose Control.”

She’s also performed during the awards show three times before, including a medley of “Get Ur Freak On” and “One Minute Man” in 2001, and an appearance in 2006 during which she recreated her “The Rain” look (Jeep, blow-up suit, and all) in tribute to longtime collaborator Hype Williams, who received that year’s Vanguard Award.

Elliot is gearing up for the release of he rsevent solo album.

The 2019 Video Music Awards will take place on August 26 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, with comedian and actor Sebastian Maniscalco handling the hosting duties for the event.
