(CelebrityAccess) — Yoshiki, the composer, multi-instrumentalist and leader of the Japanese rock group X Japan, announced he’s pledging $100,000 to support Earth Alliance and its Amazon Forest Fund.

Yoshiki says his donation is intended to support of local efforts on the ground that are working to support the indigenous and local communities that are protecting the land and biodiversity.

After hearing about the increasing fires throughout the Amazon region, and discovering the newly-launched Earth Alliance organization, he reached out to make the donation through his nonprofit organization Yoshiki Foundation America.

The Amazon Forest Fund and Earth Alliance, which is hosted by Global Wildlife Conservation, is a new non-profit organization co-founded by actor Leonardo DiCaprio.

The donation is one of several big charitable moves from Yoshiki this year. In July, he pledged 10 million-yen to help the victims and survivors of the deadly arson attack that targeted Kyoto Animation studios.

“The Amazon fires deserve the world’s attention,” Yoshiki said in a press statement. “I want to encourage people in every nation, including Japan, to take action.”
