Nominees For The 80th Annual Golden Globe Awards Announced

150 0

LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) – A small dark shadow still looms over the Golden Globes as the nominees for the 80th Annual Golden Globe Awards were announced today (December 12). Mayan Lopez and Selenis Leyva, two of the stars from “Lopez vs. Lopez,” announced the nominees – selected by members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA). Jerrod Carmichael will host the show, produced by Dick Clark Productions and Jesse Collins Entertainment and set to air live on January 10 on NBC.

NBC, broadcasting the Globes since 1996, let the awards show go dark last year amid an entertainment industry boycott sparked by a Los Angeles Times story. The story exposed the Golden Globes and HFPA – both of which contained no Black members and had suspect financial practices. Those revelations resulted in a significant overhaul of the entire organization, a new voting class, and the exit of its previous public relations (PR) firm, Sunshine Sachs. This is the last year with NBC with no word on where the future Globes will be broadcast.

Additionally, many new reforms have been put into place, some of which are: banning members from accepting any gifts and introducing a phone number to report any suspected misconduct. It added 103 more international voters and 21 additional members. The voting pool for the HFPA is now majority female, as written by THR.

Finally, the HFPA has created more categories by breaking up its supporting actor and supporting actress honors into separate awards for ongoing TV series and limited/anthology series or TV movie. Previously the supporting acting TV categories included contenders from ongoing TV series, limited series and TV movies.
