LONDON (CelebrityAccess) — Music legend Sir Elton John revealed that he’s lost much of his ability to see following a serious eye infection.
John shared the update on his health with the audience after a showing of his new musical, “The Devil Wears Prada” at the Dominion Theatre in London on Sunday night, which served as a charity gala to raise money for John’s AIDS Foundation.
“I haven’t been able to come to many of the previews because, as you know, I’ve lost my eyesight so, it’s hard for me to see it,” he said, per the Independent. “But I love to hear it and it quite sounded good tonight.”
John, who is 77, first revealed that he was suffering from vision-related health issues in September, noting that an eye infection had left him able to effectively see from just one eye.
“I can’t see anything, I can’t read anything, I can’t watch anything,” John told Good Morning America last week.
John retired from touring in 2023 after the end of his multi-year Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour, putting the capstone on his extensive career as a touring artist and earning almost a billion dollars in the final analysis, making it one of the most successful tours in history.
