VALLEJO, CA (CelebrityAccess) — The British indie rock band Sports Team reported that they were robbed at gunpoint in California, shortly after beginning their U.S. tour.
According to a social media post shared by the band, they were getting coffee and fuel for their tour van in Vallejo, CA, when masked men began to ransack the vehicle.
A member of the group says he went outside to try to stop the theft but abandoned the plan after the alleged thieves produced firearms.
Video shared on the band’s social media appeared to show masked men unloading items from a white van while bystanders seek shelter inside of a nearby business.
In a statement provided to the Guardian, members of the group said the thieves escaped with some of the band’s stage gear, travel documents, computers, and personal items. However, their instruments were not stolen, allowing them to perform a scheduled show at Goldfield Trading Post in Sacramento on Tuesday night.
“Just been robbed at gun point 10 minutes into the US tour. Stopped for coffee. Man runs in saying some guys are smashing into a van. Ran out to try to stop it and find masked guys ransacking the van. Start yelling and they pull out a gun. Police response was “submit an online report.” Lost a lot of personal gear, but they didn’t get the instruments so driving on to Sacramento to play tonight. They can take our Nintendo Switches but they can never take our ability to play rock songs about motorways. In all seriousness pretty shocking how resigned everyone seemed to be to it. “It happens”. 9am at some petrol station Starbucks. Wild,” the band said in their social media post.”
