AEG To Manage Oakland Coliseum

OAKLAND, CA (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — The Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum Authority (OACCA) has agreed to award a five-year management contract for the Oakland Coliseum to AEG.

AEG will assume day-to-day oversight of the venue and says they plan to increase the number of non-sporting events at the venue.

"AEG is the second-largest concert promoter in the world," he said, "and the Bay Area's a must-play (market). The question is what venues are chosen, and I think we're well-positioned to maximize that," AEG facilities vice president Chris Wright told OACCA commissioners.

Wright also downplayed speculation that AEG is interested 'poaching' the Oakland Raiders to play in AEG's proposed Los Angeles football stadium, telling commissioners, "If that were our intention, we would not have entered this process. Our intention is to work with the Authority to make the Coliseum an environment where the sports teams want to stay."

The stadium has been managed for the past 13 years by SMG and AEG said they intend to keep gameday staff in place for at least six months. – CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
