CHICAGO (Hypebot) – We've been exploring the future of the album in recent days on Hypebot and today Kevin Griffin of Better Than Ezra weigh in:
I don't think the album is going anywhere. Sure sales are down, and the culture of the iPod has made the single king, but there will always be the music fan that wants to immerse themselves in the work of their favorite artist.
We just happen to be in a 'sea change' of sorts in respect to how music fans get there music delivered. The power is in the hands of the fan with the immediacy of the internet, iTunes, etc.
It's up to the artist to make albums that the fan wants listen to. If you make a great album people will buy it. Go ask Radiohead. If you make a crap album with one good song, the fan will buy the one good song.
