LONDON (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Clear Channel UK has launched London’s first inner-city outdoor festival in Hyde Park. CCE, who has an exclusive deal to stage rock concerts in the park, has set up two two-day events in June called the O2 Music Wireless Festival.
New Order will headline the first night, June 24. Following that, Basement Jaxx will headline the 25th, then Keane on the 29th, and Kasabian on the 30th. Many more acts will be announced over the next few weeks. The first two days will be on the same dates as the Glastonbury Festival, but festival organizers believe the market demographic will be different enough to avoid any problems.
In a press release, organizers said “the bonus for those too old, too young, or just too in love with their creature comforts is that they can return home via any number of easy transport options to a hot shower, a warm bed, and then do it all again the next day.”
The event will also include full festival activities on site, including markets, side shows, world food, chill-out areas, and acoustic performance space.
Hyde Park has hosted outdoor events in the past, including the legendary free Rolling Stones appearance in 1969 that drew 500,000 fans. The O2 Music Wireless Festival will be the first multi-stage event to be held in the central London park. –by CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
