(CelebrityAccess) — Singer Chaka Khan has announced that she is postponing all of her upcoming tour dates in July, to seek treatment for addiction to prescription pain medication.
In a statement released on her website, a rep for the singer said: "Chaka has struggled with a dependence on prescription pain medications and has voluntarily entered the program to get healthy and stay that way."
On her Twitter account, Khan said that she had entered treatment with her sister Yvonne Stevens, also known as Taka Boom and that the two were prompted by the tragic death of the artist Prince, who died of an overdose of the prescription pain drug Fentanyl.
“The tragic death of Prince has had us both rethinking and re-evaluating our lives and priorities. We knew it was time to take action to save our lives. My sister and I would like to thank everyone for their support, love and prayers,” Khan wrote.
Khan said she would pick up the thread of her tour on August 1st. – Staff Writers
