Church Amphitheater Worries Neighbors

BEND, OR (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Pastor John Bluebaugh of the Christian Life Center of Bend, Oregon, has big plans for a proposed 2,000-seat amphitheater. The large shed would attract national Christian bands, which would attract a larger audience to hear his message.

Bluebaugh told the paper, “There’s kids that would come to an event like that who would never come to a church service.”

The planned amphitheater, however, has drawn some criticism from those who live near the site.

“I moved out here because I love the peace and quiet,” Sandra Veeck, a neighbor of the site for the proposed amphitheater, told the Bend Bulletin.

Neighbors to the amphitheater believe that the noise and traffic could harm their small town.

Church officials have tried to calm locals’ fear, by assuring them that they would host only four to six concerts per year, beginning at 7 p.m. and ending by 10 p.m. The shed would not be rented out to private users, but would be used for Sunday services during the warm summer months.

A public hearing on the church’s proposal had been scheduled for this week. –by CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
