Islamic Council Nixes Lady G

JAKARTA, Indonesia (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — A representative from Indonesia's highest Islamic authority has issued a statement saying that Muslims should avoid attending an upcoming concert by Lady Gaga, who threatens to undermine the nation's moral values.

"(Gaga's concert is) intended to destroy the nation's morality," said Indonesian Council of Ulema chairman Cholil Ridwan.

The Indonesian Council of Ulema was founded in 1975 under the Suharto administration as an interface between the different strains of the Islamic faith in Indonesia and the government, providing an organization that could issue fatwa (religious doctrinal proclamations) to Muslims on contemporary issues.

According to the Times of India, Cholil went on to note that Lady Gaga's provocative performances and costumes should be considered "un-Islamic."

"She's from the West, and she often shows her private parts while performing," Cholil added.

Lady G is set to perform in the Islamic nation as a part of her "Born This Way Ball" tour on June 3rd. More than 25,000 fans have purchased tickets to the event, which sold out in about 2 hours. – CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
