Messick Joins AEG Marketing & International

LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Andrew L. Messick, a respected executive with recent focus on marketing, business development, sponsorship and international growth and development, has joined AEG as executive vice president, Marketing & International. He will also join the organization’s Executive Committee chaired by Leiweke.

Messick, who joins AEG from the NBA where he was senior vice president, International will be responsible for management of several of AEG’s specific business units, which include marketing, advertising, public relations, merchandising and creative services for all company-owned or operated venues and entities worldwide. Additionally, his duties include the direction of business operations for most of AEG’s sports franchises, sports properties, events and tournaments among other initiatives operated by the organization.

“With the rapid and unprecedented growth plan AEG is embarked upon, Andrew’s impact will be immediate and critical,” said Timothy J. Leiweke, president and CEO, AEG.. “In addition to his role of strategically blending the marketing, advertising, promotions and public relations initiatives tied to all of AEG’s properties, Andrew will further expand these platforms to extend the overall messaging of the AEG brand."

“I am delighted to have been given the opportunity to join such an exceptional and ambitious organization,” said Messick. “AEG is a global leader in the sports and entertainment industry and I am looking forward to playing a role in the continued growth of the organization."

Having recently opened The O2 Arena in London, broken ground on O2 World Arena in Berlin, and announced plans for expansion into Asia while operating one of the music industry’s most successful international live music promotion companies, AEG will also look to Messick to play a leading role in the implementation of the organization’s international presence and development.

“As AEG further expands our international footprint, Andrew will have a key voice in our overall evaluation of business opportunities and the development of our global strategy,” Leiweke added. “His experience, relationships and knowledge regarding international growth will help to take AEG where we need to be, to broaden our business model, deliver for our partners and continue to be industry leaders in owning and operating venues and presenting live sports and entertainment worldwide.”

While with the NBA, Messick played a substantial role in the ongoing globalization of the league. Responsible for overseeing the NBA’s network of international offices, he was instrumental in growing the NBA’s presence around the world, particularly in China. He also directed the NBA’s business relationships with FIBA, the governing body for international basketball; USA Basketball, basketball’s governing body in the USA; and the IOC and the Olympic organizing committees in Athens and Beijing.

Prior to the NBA, Messick held a range of business development, marketing and general management positions for the Sara Lee Corporation in England, Australia and Canada. He also has worked for the international management consultancy McKinsey & Co. in Chicago and Amsterdam, where he was recognized as a leader in brand building and brand development for the organization.
