MetroCentre Starts Remodel

ROCKFORD, IL (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — A planned remodel of the Rockford Illinois Arena The MetroCentre is now underway.

According to a report by local news outlet WIFR, the $23 million dollar upgrade will include a new "club" section that will feature eleven luxury boxes and 200 "club" seats.

Additional improvements include a new video board, a new party deck, remodeling of the press box and restroom upgrades.

"The building and the organization will be on a lot more sound financial footing and we certainly like that as taxpayers we move into the future future we know it can do a lot better job of spurring economic development not just for downtown but for the whole community," Rockford Mayor Larry Morrissey told WIFR.

The current stage of the planned upgrades are expected to be completed by November.

The 10,000 seat multi-purpose arena was opened in 1981 and currently serves as a home to Rockford IceHogs Ice Hockey team, and the Rock River Raptors, an indoor football team. The upgrades are part of an agreement with the Chicago Blackhawks to host an American Hockey League team at the arena. The team will serve as a farm team for the Blackhawks. – CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
