MEDWAY, New Jersey (CelebrityAccess) — Country music star Troy Gentry, one half of duo Montgomery Gentry, has been killed in a helicopter crash ahead of a planned concert in New Jersey on Friday. He was 50 years old at the time of his death.

The crash happened near Flying W Airport and Resort in Medford, NJ, where the duo had been scheduled to perform on Friday night.

Gentry's death was confirmed in a post on the band's social media: "It is with great sadness that we confirm that Troy Gentry, half of the popular country duo, Montgomery Gentry, was tragically killed in a helicopter crash which took place at approximately 1:00pm today in Medford, New Jersey. Troy Gentry's family wishes to acknowledge all of the kind thoughts and prayers, and asks for privacy at this time."
