MTV Signs On With Tomorrowland Festival

BOOM, Belgium(VIP-NEWS) — MTV has signed on as the exclusive international broadcast partner for the Tomorrowland 2014 electronic dance music festival.

Last year EDM conglomerate SFX acquired Tomorrowland parent company ID&T and rolled out a U.S. edition, TomorrowWorld, outside Atlanta last September.

This will be the first time the Belgium EDM festival, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, will be televised. MTV will air live event footage from the Tomorrowland 2014 fest as part of its MTV World Stage programming.

This year the festival has been extended to run over two consecutive weekends (July 18-20 and 25-27), doubling its capacity. The 360,000 available tickets sold out within an hour of going on sale. EDM star acts including Tiësto, Armin Van Buuren, Carl Cox, Hardwell, Eric Prydz and Diplo have already confirmed for the 2014 event.

“Tomorrowland is a festival in a category of its own, so we’re excited to bring this content to MTV’s international audiences,” said Bruce Gillmer, Executive Vice President of Talent and Music Programming/Events at Viacom International Media Networks. “Electronic dance music has been part of MTV’s repertoire for almost two decades, stretching right back to the early years – particularly in Europe. So working with Tomorrowland is a perfect fit, and connects us with the new generation of EDM fans and followers around the world.”

MTV said it will carry two one-hour World Stage specials on Tomorrowland 2014 festival footage on its network of more than 60 international channels reaching 550 million homes worldwide. Both are set to premiere in August.

Hundreds of thousands of EDM fans from some 200 countries descend on the tiny Belgium town of Boom every year for Tomorrowland, the world`s leading EDM fest. 16.8 million more watched coverage of the event on Tomorrowland`s YouTube livestream.

MTV also announced a documentary celebrating Tomorrowland’s 10-year history is in the works and is slated to be released in late 2014.
