CHICAGO (CelebrityAccess) — Singer and music writer Billy Butler, who scored a top ten R&B hit with his 1965 release "I Can't Work No Longer" has died in Chicago. He was 69 at the time of his death.
The younger brother of Impressions frontman Jerry Butler, formed The Enchanters in 1963, recording on Okeh Records, where he was produced by the legendary Curtis Mayfield. The group, renamed to the Chanters, had their first hit with a rework of "I Can't Work No Longer" which hit #6 on the R&B charts and charted on the Hot 100.
Butler went on to found the group Infinity, which had some minor R&B chart success, most notably for "Get on the Case" (1969) and "Hung up on You" (1973).
More recently, Butler played guitar and served as the musical director for his brother Jerry Butler's band. – Staff Writers
