RENO, NV (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — According to the Reno Gazette-Journal the City Council has approved some last minute changes to the 7,500 seat Reno Events Center geared towards attracting top performers.
The new additions include back stage dressing rooms and possibly heavier riggings to help support more substantial speakers, video and lights above the stage. The total estimated cost add almost $500,000 to the original construction budget of $27.5 million.
“In hindsight maybe we should have (included them in original designs), but the focus was making sure the building was programmed within budget,” manager Joe Kelley told the paper.
Executive vice president of Bill Graham Presents, Rick Mueller, who was brought in to consult on the project, said the venue “was completely insufficient to host a major touring attraction, plus they had no dressing room, no catering room, no green room.”
The Gazette-Journal also reported that the Events Center plans do not include smaller meeting rooms, a kitchen or a ballroom. Should there be any money left over, the city could use it to build a projected $17.8 million ballroom across the street. –by CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
