RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil (CelebrityAccess) — A senior official with the International Olympic Committee was arrested on Wednesday in connection with a probe into alleged ticket scalping.
According to the Associated Press, Ireland's Patrick Hickey, a member of the IOC's executive board, was taken to the hospital for an undisclosed medical condition after police confronted him at his Rio hotel on Wednesday.
Police in Rio have alleged that Hickey plotted with at least six other people to illegally sell tickets for the Rio de Janeiro Olympics, the Associated Press said.
The Associated Press reported that police have seized more than 1,000 tickets that were being sold for high fees and allocated to the Olympic Council of Ireland.
Kevin James Mallon one of the heads of THG Sports, was arrested last week as a part of the same probe, as was a THG Sports employee who worked as an interpreter. Police have accused Mallon of possessing fake tickets. – Staff Writers
