SXSW Creative Director Brent Grulke Dead At 52


AUSTIN, TX (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Brent Grulke, former music journalist and the creative director of SXSW's Music division, died on Monday in August from a heart attack following oral surgery. He was 52 at the time of his death.

A native of North Platte, Nebraska, Grulke attended University of Texas at Austin, majoring in Radio/Television/Film and working as an editor to at student newspaper The Daily Texan. Following his graduation, Grulke worked as a sound engineer at venues around Austin and as a tour manager for bands such as the Wild Seeds, True Believers and Killer Bees and then as the music editor at The Austin Chronicle

In 1994, Grulke began booking industry panels at SXSW and a year later, was named creative director for the festival.

Grulke was the subject of a CelebrityAccess profile in 2009.
