Universal France Merge And Cut Staff

PARIS (VIP-NEWS) — Universal Music France is merging its labels Universal Licensing Music (ULM) and Mercury, according to Billboard.biz.

The new label will be headed by Olivier Nusse, director general of ULM. There is no confirmed title for the combined operation. Nusse will still be in charge of ULM's marketing department, which remains independent of the merger.

Universal Music France is also merging its classical and jazz departments, following an international pattern according to a Universal spokesperson, who confirmed the moves. Decca Music Group this month confirmed a "realignment" of its U.K. operation, with part of its roster transferring to Universal Classics & Jazz.

The mergers are leading to the lay-off of about 20 people at Universal Music France, including former Mercury director Sébastien Saussez. According to Billboard
