ABERDEEN, Scotland (CelebrityAccess) — Sir Elton John has been announced as the first musical performer announced at the Event Complex Aberdeen when the arena opens next year.
John will perform two shows at the TECA as part of the UK dates of his current Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour on November 20 and 21st in 2020.
“It’s fantastic that Elton John is the first announcement of a major music act for our multi-million-pound new TECA arena. Sir Elton is a world-renowned artist and TECA is designed to play a significant role in ensuring Aberdeen and the wider north-east continues to compete on a global scale by attracting major artists and new events as well as retaining existing international events. The venue fits with the aims of our Regional Economic Strategy which has internationalization at its heart and is vital to the area’s future prosperity,” said Aberdeen City Council Co-Leader Councillor Jenny Laing.
TECA is slated to open in the summer of 2019 after a £333 million build-out through a partnership between Aberdeen City Council and Henry Boot Developments. TECA will replace the Aberdeen Exhibition Conference and Centre (AECC) with 48,000 square meters of multi-purpose event space including a 12,500-capacity arena, conference and exhibition halls, and restaurants.
Elton is currently on track to perform at more than 300 shows across five continents, North America, Europe, Asia, South America, and Australasia as part of his farewell tour. The tour is set to wrap in 2021, putting an exclamation point on his 50-year career as a touring artist.
