NEW YORK (CelebrityAccess) Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group announced today that it has acquired The Works Entertainment, the production company behind the highly popular Illusionists stage magic franchise as well as “Circus 1903 – The Golden Age of Circus.”
This is the third transaction for Cirque since it purchased Blue Man Group and VStar Entertainment Group last year.
Cirque purchased The Works from owners Simon Painter, Tim Lawson and Kilburn Live using a portion of a new $120 million unsecured credit facility made available by the Fonds de Solidarite FTQ and the CAisse de depot et placement du Quebec, according to Deadline Hollywood.
The acquisition continues to shift the company’s focus on circus arts to “a live entertainment creator, producer and promoter,” Cirque said in the announcement.
The Illusionists, which is similar to the “Now You See, Me Now You Don’t” movie concept of a band of magicians, has two traveling productions as well as a Broadway show.
