AUSTIN, Texas (CelebrityAccess) Granger Smith has revealed that his 3-year-old son, River, was in a fatal accident and the country music performer and his wife had to make the tough decision to let the child pass away.

“I have to deliver unthinkable news,” the singer wrote on Twitter. “We’ve lost our youngest son, River Kelly Smith.”

He added, “Following a tragic accident, and despite doctor’s best efforts, he was unable to be revived. Amber and I made the decision to say our last goodbyes and donate his organs so that other children will be given a second chance at life.”

Smith urged his fans to “love the ones close to you, saying this was the most difficult decision of he and his wife’s lives.

Smith’s rep confirmed that River’s death today was due to drowning in a pool. River “died in a tragic drowning accident at home,” a rep told People in a statement.

In lieu of gifts or flowers, the family asks donations be made to Austin’s Dell Children’s Medical Center in River’s name.

Smith is also known for his comical alter ego, the redneck performer Earl Dibbles Jr.
