LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) Roman Polanski, who was expelled from the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences last year, will not be reinstated any time soon.

Polanski’s membership was revoked May 3, 2018, the same day that Bill Cosby’s membership was revoked. The director has been asking to be reinstated but attorneys for the academy have said no.

Polanski’s attorney argues that he did not have a chance to review his case. The academy, however, says that it did everything by the book when it expelled him. Further, the academy says the disgraced director has no right to use the very same legal system he’s been evading since 1978.

Polanski has been convicted of drugging and raping a 13-year-old girl in the ’70s. He has been in selk-imposed exile in Europe since fleeing the U.S. 40 years ago.

The academy said in its response that it looked at material including “a ten-page letter from his lawyer advocating his position, over four hundred pages of supporting documents, a copy of a documentary titled Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired, an email from his counsel, and a recorded video statement by Petitioner addressing the Board.”
