A Good Year At DPAC

DURHAM, NC (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Durham Performing Arts Center (DPAC) posted a solid year during the 2010-2011 season, accommodating more than 350,000 patrons, up 15% from the same period in the previous year.

The venue was also recognized by local news organizations, including the The Independent Weekly as best Live Theater Venue and the Herald Sun Readers Choice Awards for Best Entertainment this past season.

During the period in question, DPAC hosted 179 performances, ranging from touring B'Way musicals and comedy to concerts, of which 58 were sold-out events. The return of comedian Jerry Seinfeld proved to be one of the most popular nights, selling out two nights, while Disney's Lion King show saw 32 sell-out nights with mre than 81,000 tickets sold.

The 2,712-capacity DPAC first opened in late 2008 as the largest performing arts center in the region. The PAC is operated on behalf of the city of Durham by Nederlander and the venue's upcoming lineup includes Dolly Parton (Aug. 2) and Steely Dan (Aug. 4).

"With so many great venues in the region, it's exciting for DPAC to again see attendance increasing for our wide variety of Broadway, concert, comedy and family show events," said Bob Klaus, GM of DPAC. "The stat we keep our eye closest on though is not attendance, but the smiles of our guests. More than ever guests are telling us they would recommend DPAC events to others (97.6%) and that they'll be back for future events (96.3%)." – CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
