KANSAS CITY, MO (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — The Kansas City Council has elected for an early termination of AEG's management contract for the aging Kemper Arena.
AEG's 5-year deal was originally set to run until the end of the year, but following the City Council vote, it will end on June 30th, the Kansas City Business Journal reported.
The arena has failed to book enough events to generate a profit and faces competition from the nearby Sprint Center, which opened in October 2007 and is also operated by AEG.
According to the Business Journal, the city will take over operations at the Kemper, but are unlikely to competitively market the arena as a venue for events, which the city hopes will save them as much as $500,000. – CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
