Bangor Vote Paves The Way For A New Arena

BANGOR, ME (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — The citizens of Bangor have overwhelming voted to approve a plan to build a new arena and convention center complex that might cost as much as $65 million.

According to the Bangor Daily News, the complex will take roughly two years to build, but city councilors are hoping that construction will be underway by midsummer.

Current plans for the arena call for 5,800-fixed seat U-shaped arena (with a maximum capacity of 8,050) and adjoining convention center. The existing Bangor Auditorium and Civic Center will remain in use during the building phase.

Bangor will be paying for the arena with the proceeds from Bangor's legal gambling venue, Hollywood Slots, along with a portion of the city's downtown tax increment financing fund.

City Manager Catherine Conlow was also able to confirm that the city's iconic Paul Bunyan statue is not expected to be disrupted during construction. – CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
