Comcast In Talks Over Streaming Music Service

PHILADELPHIA (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Comcast is reportedly in talks with music companies over a plan to offer a streaming music service to their ISP customers as part of an à la carte approach.

According to the Washington Post, the streaming music package would be an add-on feature that would cost customers with an additional charge of $5 (or more) on their monthly bill. The streaming service would be available to users through their a website or through a customer's television via their cable box.

The notion of a 'tax' on ISPs in exchange for offering music downloads or streamed music has been a part of the digital music zeitgeist for years now, and if the Comcast deal moves forward with major label support, it would effectively bring it to pass.

The post noted that a Danish ISP, TDC, has been providing a similar service to their customers that has proven to be very popular. – CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
