Foo Fighters Sign On For Crowd-Funded Concert

RICHMOND, (Hypebot) – Richmond fans of the Foo Fighters need no longer be disappointed that the band has not played their city in 15 years, even though leader Dave Grohl grew up in the state. Using white label crowdfunding platform Crowdtilt, fans raised the $70,000 they thought it would take to bring the band to Richmond; and late on Friday, the Foo Fighters said yes via Twitter.

"well, well, well…@foofighters–rva @rvadonuts @browns–vdubs @Crowdtilt See ya soon…let's have a good time.#RVA" a spokesperson for the band tweeted.

To raise funds, organizers set out to sell pledges for 1400 tickets at just over $42 each. Along the way, two local business, Sugar Shack Donuts and Brown Volkswagen, each bought $5000 worth of tickets and gave then away. With $70,000 raised and the campaign closed, the band said yes.

As we wrote in May, "Crowdtilt launched as a way for groups to pool money and has grown into a multifaceted service for pooling money, fundraising and selling things all of which share elements of crowdfunding… {including] Crowdtilt Open, an open source platform for DIY crowdfunding [and] Sell Something, a platform for selling anything that uses a crowdfunding approach to determine demand. For a limited time, it's also free to use with no commission or credit card fees." – Staff Writers
